About Protect Volusia

Our mission

Protect Volusia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the health, safety, and quality of life of Volusia County residents by advocating for responsible growth, government transparency, and environmental preservation. We amplify community voices, demand accountability from elected officials, and stand up for the values that make Volusia a place worth protecting.

how it all began

Protect Volusia was born in 2022 out of the community’s urgent response to the proposed Belvedere Terminals fuel storage project in Ormond Beach. Concerned about its potential impact on health, safety, and property values, Protect Volusia organized public opposition and launched a petition that gathered over 43,000 signatures in just a few months. Through consistent engagement with local officials, media outreach, and community mobilization, the group successfully pressured the company to look elsewhere. This victory demonstrated the power of collective action and established Protect Volusia as a leading voice for residents who want to protect what matters most in their communities.

Since then, Protect Volusia has become a platform for residents to raise awareness, demand government accountability and transparency, and advocate for responsible growth and environmental protection. Our initiatives are designed to foster dialogue and collaboration among residents, ensuring that every voice is heard.
